Our Guide to Glasses: Materials, Shape, & More
Our opticians are happy to help you pick out a pair of frames that you love.
Style is personal. And we want you to love your glasses.
These are just some general guidelines that can help you in your selection before you try on some frames. During your visit, we can get to know what you are looking for and make personalized recommendations.
Frame Shape
Our frames come in a variety of shapes depending on your preference, mood, or even your face shape. Check out a few of the popular frame shapes that we offer:
- Rectangle Frames: Rectangular-shaped lenses are classic and are flattering on a lot of face shapes, especially on a round face, where the rectangular lenses can provide a balance.
- Round Frames: Round frames are circular in shape and more of a modern style of frame. This style of frame also looks great on many face shapes, including long and round faces.
- Oval Frames: Oval frames are similar to rectangle frames but a bit softer with curved edges. These can be worn classic or oversized for a fun look.
- Cat-Eye Frames: Cat-eye lenses are oval in shape, but the ends point upward like the eye of a cat. They are a popular style due to the flattering look they have on the face.
Face Shape
When considering what frame style might look great on you, you can find out what face shape you have and discover recommended styles for each shape. This is just a guideline, and different styles tend to look great on many face shapes. The general face shapes are as follows:
- Oval Face Shape: An oval face shape has a proportional distance from the forehead to nose and from nose to chin. Because of the balance in an oval face, almost all frame shapes will work, including cat-eye, oval, and oval.
- Round Face: a round face is circular in shape where the middle of the face is a bit broader than an oval shape. A round pair of frames will balance the roundness of the face, as will the cat-eye shape.
- Heart-Shaped Face:A heart-shaped face tends to be a bit broader in the forehead area and slimmer in the chin area. Rounder frames can provide balance in the top area of the face and accentuate the shape.
- Square Face: A square face shape is characterized by a broader forehead and jawline with angular features. Oval and round shapes on frames can provide balance and add softness to this shape.
Frame Materials
The material that your frame is made out of can add to the style of the frame and give it a unique edge. We offer several different customized materials to choose from, including:
- Titanium: Titanium frames are not only strong but rich in color, with each piece of a titanium frame being colored individually. These vibrant colors receive a rubber coating to protect the frames and keep the color alive.
- Italian Acetate: Italian acetate has a beautiful look with a mixture of vibrant and transparent colours in the acetate for a three-dimensional look. This style is classic and professional.
- Fourth Dimensions: A unique acetate sanding technique provides the most vibrant colors and is inspired by using recycled frame materials and bringing them back to life for a one-of-a-kind look.
Frame Fit
The fit of your frames is very important to the look and comfort of your glasses. There are a few tips on how to make sure you have the right fit on your frames.
First, start by finding the size of a pair of frames you already know fit correctly. This is found on the arm of the glasses and contains 3 numbers: the lens width, bridge width, and temple (arm) length. These numbers can be used when finding a new pair of frames to create a similar fit.
These lengths can range, and some dimensions fit certain faces better than others. Our team is here to give you a second opinion and adjust your frames as needed for a great fit.
Our Guide to Lens Types
The world of lens types is wide, and we want to provide the best variety we can to our customers. Not only do we offer many types of lenses at Eclectic Eyewear, but we also offer different unique materials to choose from.
These materials include our basic CR-39, lightweight and impact-resistant Trivex, and ultra-thin Hi-Index lenses. What’s more, there are many coatings and specialty lenses to discuss depending on your lifestyle.
Crizal Lenses
Crizal lenses are a great choice if you require anti-glare and anti-reflection from sunlight in your lens but still want strength and durability against scratches and smudges.
Crizal lenses provide all of this and crystal-clear clarity.
Polarized Lenses
Polarized lenses are great for time spent in the sun and provide anti-glare properties in your prescription sunglasses. Polarization in lenses can help protect your eyes from strain due to a light-filtering chemical applied to the lens.
Polarized lenses are great for outdoor activities and playing sports, and orange-coloured polarized lenses can actually aid in visibility and filter out blue light.
Transitions Photochromic Lenses
Transitions photochromic lenses are intelligent lenses that change and adapt to different light situations. The lens darkens in brighter direct sunlight and lightens when indoors.
No need to change to sunglasses when stepping outside, as Transitions provides UVA/UVB protection light filtering all in one pair.
Shamir Lens Technologies: Enhancing Visual Quality
Shamir and the EyePoint technology are changing the lens game by making it ultra-personalized. The EyePoint technology uses over 3,600 points of data about factors such as lens refraction, prescription, thickness, pupil distance, and more to make an advanced lens that is the closest thing to seeing with your natural eye. This provides a personalized lens that fits with any prescription and refractive error to provide a comfortable and seamless visual experience.
Shamir Autograph III: Progressive Lenses
The Shamir Autograph III lens is a progressive lens offering a personalized vision experience and a seamless integration between prescriptions within the progressive lens.
The different levels of prescription power are dependent on specific zones throughout the lens depending on your eye’s requirements.
Shamir Glacier Plus UV: Anti-Reflective Lenses
The Shamir Glacier Plus lens is an advanced anti-reflective coating that will last on your lenses and improve the clarity of your vision in high-light situations.
The lenses are scratch and dust resistant and tested to assist with a variety of different glare and situations such as when driving and when someone is looking at you.
Shamir Blue Zero: Blue Light Blocking Lenses
Shamir Blue Zero is a blue light-blocking technology embedded right into the lens.
The Blue Zero lens is able to filter out the blue light without reducing clarity and keeping colors still looking bright and contrast intact.
Shamir Relax: Digital Lenses
Shamir Relax lenses are single-vision lenses that have extra power in the lower area to account for digital screen viewing and assist with the effects of digital eye strain.
The lens helps with focus and comfort, which can become difficult when looking at our digital devices for an extended period of time.
Sunglasses: Protecting You In Many Situations
A quality pair of sunglasses is not only a fashionable accessory, but they are also essential for protecting your eyes in direct sunlight.
The skin around the eye, as well as the lens of the eye itself, is very sensitive to the UV rays of the sun, and wearing protective sunglasses can even reduce the risk of developing certain eye diseases such as cataracts.
So why not stay stylish while staying safe and protect your eyes with our unique range of sunglasses that will fit any style and activity?
Sunglasses For Sports
Sunglasses are essential for any sport or outdoor activity when you know the sun will be out.
With a prescription pair of sunglasses, you won’t have to switch back and forth from pair to pair just to be able to see the golf ball at your next game. Choose polarized sunglasses for the added benefit of anti-glare to help you focus on your game.
Sunglasses For Fashion
We know that many people use sunglasses as an accessory and that sun protection can be a bonus, that’s why we make sure to stock up on some classic styles like the wayfarer and aviator as well as some trendy frames to go with your individual style.
Sunglasses With Prescription
Having your prescription in your pair of sunglasses is ideal for the transition from inside to outside without having to compromise your vision.
Choose between photochromic lens, like Transitions, which adjust automatically to the light level in your space, or classic sunglasses with your prescription.
We have a variety of options to suit your lifestyle.
